Profile
Shima Matsumoto
Eurythmist & creative performance artist
Certified instructor in Kokorozashi Kyoiku
Born in Ise-Shima. Based in Ise and active in Japan and internationally.
Studying in Canada introduced Shima to movement expression, and a journey to Greece led her to eurythmy. She studied eurythmy in Tokyo for 14 years and performed on stages in Japan and abroad.
During 20 years in English education, she met students facing difficulties or struggling to feel at home at school, and recognized the importance of learning that affirms each person’s existence and helps them live as themselves.

Today, through eurythmy, yoga and meditation, she develops ここからだ activities that foster harmony among words, heart and body. She offers online and in-person programs for individuals, and Smile Wellness Workshops in schools, companies and eldercare facilities.
For the participatory creative performance “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter”, she co-created a production in Ise with 710 participants and has brought it to 12 locations across Japan.
She teaches eurythmy at Kyotanabe Steiner School, which values artistic activities and strives for “education toward freedom”, while also developing the participatory creative performance “The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter” in Japan and abroad.
